Fr. Richard John Neuhaus, 1936-2009

(Dan Writing) Though Mary Clare has had only a few professional/academic associations with him & I've had none, both of us were profoundly saddened to hear of the untimely death of Fr. Richard John Neuhaus. As a writer, thinker, & social critic Fr. Neuhaus was an extraordinarily powerful & articulate voice for Catholic Truth in an increasingly degenerate public square. Thankfully the wonderful journal he started, First Things, will endure, but it will be all the poorer without his regularly insightful & piquant contributions. If you would like to read more reflections about his life & work, I would recommend this piece written by the priest who married M.C. & me, Fr. George Rutler, & also this blog post written by one of M.C.'s classmates from Harvard, Ross Douthat. A Funeral Mass will be held tomorrow at 10am at the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

Requiem aeternam dona ei, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat ei.
